Why are there different versions of Sea Hero Quest?

Sea Hero Quest is a gaming project designed to help scientists better understand how navigation works.

The first version of Sea Hero Quest was released in 2016 on mobile devices, once the game had collected enough data, the app was removed from the appstores.

A VR version of Sea Hero Quest was also launched and later removed once it had collected enough data.

Now the project lives on in the hands of research scientists and participants in these studies.

Sea Hero Quest ID is the version of the game that scientists can download data directly from the device.

Sea Hero Quest Research Edition is a publicly available version where participants can enter a code to associate themselves to a particular research project.
